Our Founder

Samuel Lawrence is the founder of Samuel Lawrence Studio, a London-based creative technology and production company working across motion capture, performance capture, 3D, animation, virtual production and immersive experiences.

With nearly 20 years of experience in animation and digital production, and more than 8 years specialising in motion capture, Samuel has spent his career working at the point where creative ideas meet technical production. His experience ranges from animation and post-production to running motion capture shoots, developing character pipelines and building real-time experiences.

Before founding the studio, Samuel worked as Head of Motion Capture and Head of Post Production at Target3D, where he was involved in projects spanning games, entertainment, sports and emerging technology. His work has included motion capture and post-production for AAA game productions, alongside performance capture, volumetric capture and real-time workflows using technologies including Unreal Engine.

But Samuel Lawrence Studio was created to go beyond simply providing production services.

Samuel believes that new technologies are creating entirely new ways for audiences to experience stories, characters and places. Motion capture can bring digital characters to life. Real-time engines can turn environments into interactive worlds. Virtual and augmented reality can place audiences directly inside an experience. 3D and spatial technologies can allow people to explore places before physically visiting them.

The studio exists to explore that intersection.

Rather than separating creative and technical production, Samuel takes a hands-on, end-to-end approach. Depending on the project, that might mean helping shape an idea at the beginning, designing the technical workflow, capturing performances, overseeing 3D production, solving pipeline problems or taking the project through post-production and final delivery.

Alongside client work, Samuel continues to develop original projects, prototypes and new production workflows, exploring areas such as spatial storytelling, free-roam VR and more accessible approaches to motion capture.

That experimentation is an important part of the company. The aim isn't to use technology simply because it's new. It's to understand what the technology makes possible creatively and then find practical ways to turn those possibilities into real experiences.

Samuel remains directly involved in the work the studio produces. It keeps the company close to its original philosophy:
